Winthrop Fitness is one place in the world that really DOES have something for everybody. Whether you are an elite athlete, on the mend from injury, looking to improve your cardiovascular health or just want to get and stay fit, Winthrop Fitness offers the two most important ingredients in a fitness program: State-of-the-art equipment, and a superior staff to help you reach your fitness goals.

STRENGTH: Our full line of Icarian strength machines provides smooth, simple movements to help build and maintain strength. For core strength (an important component of any fitness program) we offer a full range of balance balls along with medicine and bocu balls, foam rolls and wobble blocks to improve balance and agility. To learn how to correctly incorporate core strength into your routine and make the most of your fitness program, schedule a session with one of our Personal Trainers. Or take a Pilates class and experience the benefits of core strength in a fun, supportive group setting. Yoga is another excellent way to improve strength, flexibility and balance, and has the added benefit of calming the mind. Winthrop Fitness offers both ongoing and series classes in Pilates and Yoga. CARDIO: For aerobic fitness, we have elliptical trainers, treadmills, recumbent bicycles and a fleet of Lemond Spin Bikes along with a wide variety of Spin Classes.

Drop-In Class Descriptions

SPINNING  is an indoor cycling group workout on high performance stationary bikes. Class size is limited. Bikes are available on a first come, first serve basis only. Sign ups are one week in advance at the front desk.

YOGA
Hatha Yoga classes consist of a sequence of poses called Asanas, and breath work called Pranayama. Featuring stretches, twists and balances, the poses are approached mindfully and gently, honoring the principle of “DO NO HARM.” Through regular practice of yoga, your body grows stronger, more flexible and toned. Yoga helps to maintain a balanced metabolism and promotes cardio and circulatory health. Yoga practice also alleviates anxiety and develops a sense of well being.

Our Yoga instructors are trained to offer modifications to accommodate all levels of experience.

Karla,  one of our pilates instructorsPILATES Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body, particularly the “core” abdomen and back muscles. Pilates emphasizes the systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing. Practiced regularly, Pilates teaches balance and coordination of body and mind, promotes increased lung capacity and circulation, improves posture and promotes positive body awareness.


CIRCUIT

    Masters Circuit “OPEC”-Intermediate-Advanced circuit training with a personal trainer. Age range ~50-75. Includes high level strength, core, and balance activities.

    Noon Circuit-Beginning -Intermediate circuit workout with a personal trainer emphasizing strength, core, and balance.

Private Classes
Private Yoga and Pilates sessions are available by appointment. Cost is $40 per session, or $140 for 4 sessions. Payable in advance. No-shows or late cancellations will be charged a $20 re-scheduling fee.

Special Series Classes
Winthrop Fitness offers a variety of series classes throughout the year. Series classes require pre-registration; no drop-ins allowed. Call us for information about our current series class offerings.
